The Miracle of Children

So, yesterday was an amazing day. Our son took his first multiple steps (with us watching, who knows what he does when we aren't looking). It is so thrilling to see the gradual development of a baby to a child to an adult. Before I became a mother I never really knew pure joy from something that seems so small in the whole scheme of things or in the eyes of those who don't know. I am totally in love with that little guy. Everything he does is the coolest thing since sliced bread or even cooler than sliced bread if that is possible. He is only one and a week today. Obviously, he still has a lot of ground to cover in life, but from where he was a year ago he has made some miraclous progress. He has eight teeth (four on top and four on the bottom), he can climb the stairs, he can display every human emotion in 5 seconds flat, he can say dada and papa, he also says something that sounds like "lookatthat" as point to objects and "ohwow". He can carry on a an entire conversation with himself as he explores every inch of the location we are in (some of his best monologues are in the car, Shakespeare move over). He can do the signs for bye bye, music, and milk. He loves it when he hears dogs bark from a distance. He throws his arms out, flexes every muscle, and says ooohh when something really exciting happens like a door opening or a cat coming up to him. He also give huge wet dangerous kisses. He usually grabs my hair with both hand on the side of my neck opens his mouth and goes in for the plant. We went to the doctor today for his one year check up and he is 23lbs and 30 3/4in. He has come a long way from the 8lb baby that was 21 inches long.
